Skin Cancer Removal
After we have a verified skin cancer diagnosis in a report from our pathologists, we remove most skin cancers either by minor surgery or by shaving the cancer depending on the depth and size of the cancer. All removals require local anesthetic to numb the area to produce no pain. Often an electric needle is used to ensure the entire growth is unable to spread.
Basal cell skin carcinoma and squamous skin cancers are slower growing cancers. If your diagnosis is a basal cell or squamous cancer, you should not feel afraid about waiting a few days or weeks for an appointment for removal.
We make every attempt to remove melanoma skin cancer within a few short weeks due to the danger of spreading to other parts of the body. Patients who have direct relatives who have had melanomas or patients who have been treated for melanoma skin cancers in the past should have REGULAR CHECK UPS and should be proactive about seeking surgery after a melanoma diagnosis.
With some larger or deeper skin cancers, Dr. Frazier or Peggy Sue Licavoli may refer for further cancer treatment by another area cancer specialist.
